The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) said yesterday that it is still working on allegations that some of its members used bribes to win posts during the party’s elections last year.

During the celebrations to congratulate Dr Jakaya Kikwete and other leaders who were re-elected to various posts last year CCM’s Vice Chairman Philip Mangula said that his party would dispatch a team to areas suspected of foul play during the elections and gave them six months to carry out the investigation.

Speaking yesterday over the phone in Dar es Salaam, CCM Secretary of Ideology and Publicity Nape Nnauye said the time has been extended as allowed by the Party’s election laws and regulations to enable the teams to seek more evidence.

“We are aware that people are questioning the delay to name the people who used corruption during election, but the allegations are so many and therefore in order to come up with appropriate decisions, we have extended the investigation time as per laws,” he said

He added: “The special committee on this issue is travelling in all regions where there are such allegations to investigate and interview people and come up with recommendations that will be put before the party’s decision committee.”
“We believe at the end everyone who has been accused is getting all the rights including the right to be heard. This will give us the chance to provide the decisions,” he said

Mangula told reporters last year: “In accordance to our election regulation of 2012, section 33(2) it is not allowed for any party leader or a candidate to use bribes for the sake of getting a position, hence if found guilty, they lose their positions…”
