Dar es Salaam. Police have arrested two suspected car thieves and seized at least 10 vehicles in a garage located at Mbezi Beach in Kinondoni District.
The Special Zone Police Commander, Mr Suleiman Kova, told reporters yesterday that two owners of the garage at Mbezi Beach in the city were in police custody in connection with the seized vehicles believed to have been stolen.
He said the arrest was a result of the ongoing special operation to curb crime in the city.
According to Mr Kova, five vehicles and one rickshaw, which are believed to have been stolen, were found in the suspects’ garage.
He said the suspects cooperated with the police and led them to other hideouts where more stolen cars and motorcycles were recovered.
He added that so far seven vehicles had been identified by owners.

Meanwhile, a robbery suspect was shot dead by police at Kitumbini Street in the city. Mr Kova alleged that the dead was among six robbers who were planning to grab a huge amount of money from a businessman who was transferring the cash to a bank.
He said upon learning of the police presence, the suspects started shooting and injured one officer. Police responded immediately and killed one suspect as others fled.
In another incident, an alleged robber was beaten to death by a mob after a foiled attempt to rob a businessman, Mr Abas Musa, of Sh18 million.
According to Mr Kova, the incident took place at Tabata Relini.
