MORE PICTURE: NEW HOUSES FOR STUDENTS IN SWEDEN- BUT CAN YOU LIVE THERE?

Could you stay here ?Swedish architects have designed independent student housing at 10 sqm , containing both loft , kitchen , bathroom and a small garden with patio .
Tengbom Architects has designed a student housing unit in just 10 square meters that is affordable, eco-friendly and smart - both in terms of design and materials. In 2014, 22 units stand ready to move for students at Lund University.

In collaboration with students at Lund University , has Tengbom focused on meeting the needs of students in a sustainable , smart and affordable way .To build affordable student housing requires new thinking and new solutions . The area of each unit is reduced from the current requirement of 25 square meters to 10 square meters through legal consent. The compact flats still holds a comfortable loft , kitchen , bathroom and a small garden with patio . Through an efficient layout and use of laminated wood as construction material , the ecological impact and carbon footprint also significantly reduced. And perhaps best of all: They are so inexpensive to produce that rents are reduced by 50 percent.

Until the units completed in 2014, the prototype currently be on display at Virserum Art Museum in Smaland , Sweden.

- By setting out these well- planned and sustainable student units , we want to challenge the conventional methods and show new ways of thinking. What is " good" standard of living ? What materials can we use? To face the future in a sustainable way , we must be innovative in every aspect and have the courage to break new ground , says Linda Camara at Tengbom Architects .

The project is a collaboration with manufacturers Martinson and real estate AF Bostäder .
