Wife loses hand in family fight with husband

Geita. A woman at Bugarama Village in Geita Region has lost her hand after her husband chopped it off with a machete in a domestic fight.
According to witnesses, the 24-year-old Leah Clement, was quarrelling with her husband, because she was suspecting him to have a love affair with another woman. Ms Leah said she has been living with her husband (name withheld) since 2008 and they were blessed with two children.
Speaking at her hospital bed in Geita, Ms Leah said their harmonious matrimonial life turned sour soon after her husband allegedly married another woman whose name was not disclosed.
According to the Geita regional police commander, Mr Leornard Paul, the incident happened at the house of Leah’s parents, where she had taken refuge to escape her husband’s constant beatings.
He said quarrels between the couple started after the husband sold 30 bags of rice and married another woman. “The suspect is in custody and would be arraigned,” the RPC said.
