Dar es Salaam.
Constitution Review Commission (CRC) chairman Judge (retired) Joseph Warioba has said the process to analyse the views from various organisations in the new Constitution is going on effectively despite interruption by politicians.
He said the commission was now analysing views from various organisations and that they were going through each and every chapter and making reference to the draft.
Mr Warioba cited statements made by Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Parent Wing national chairman Abdalah Bulembo that the CRC boss was protecting the interests of the ruling party in the course of performing his duties.
“I have never been used by any political party as Mr Bulembo is claiming...I’m doing this job for Tanzanians who have trust in me and the whole commission. We will not be intimidated by these statements,” he said.
He called for patience from Tanzanians, saying the commission was doing the best it could to bring a constitution that would be accepted by the majority.
Mr Bulembo is said to have held a political rally in Mbeya a few days after the commission had visited the city to collect views. According to Judge Warioba, during the rally he accused CRC members of favouring the ruling party by  protecting it’s interests during the constitution-making process.
The retired Judge added that Mr Bulembo held another political rally in Moshi and repeated the same allegations. The CRC boss said though the statements discouraged some members of the team,   majority of Tanzanians trust his team.
“As a commission, we are not surprised by these statements. After all, we expected criticism of this kind because there are many new issues that have been proposed in the draft.  We knew many people would comment on the issues,” he said.
