A high school student suspected to be a member of the Al-Shabaab militia has been arrested in Kenya.
The student was arrested on Monday evening at Murang'a Road Mixed Secondary School in the capital Nairobi, following intelligence reports that he could be a member of the Islamist militia linked to the dreaded al-Qaeda network.
Police from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in Nairobi were on Tuesday interrogating the Form Three student, with hopes that he could give crucial information that could help in the fight against terror.
“The police arrested the boy following information that he was a member of Al-Shabaab, but we are still treating him as a suspect,” local Starehe police boss Samuel Anampiu said.
An intelligence report from the National Intelligence Service leaked last week revealed that a large number of high school students were recruited and trained by the Al-Shabaab.
The report named several high profile schools in Nairobi.
On Monday morning, three terror suspects were arrested in Pangani’s Metro Fairview Plaza’s seventh floor, where they had been living for an unclear period.
Mr Anampiu said three had five passports from different countries, four SIM cards from four different service providers from three countries, five mobile phones, 14 passport size photographs of different people and a car.
“We arrested them as we believe that they are not legitimate aliens and we are investigating their actions,” Mr Anampiu said-
