One of Zambia’s largest copper and cobalt mining companies – Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) -- has assured Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) that it would continue using the Dar es Salaam port as its major outlet.
The company told a Tanzanian delegation, that visited the mines recently, it was satisfied with the improved efficiency and services at the port.
KCM’s Marketing and Logistics head Amol Mehra said although there were in-land transportation challenges they face, over 70 per cent of their production is exported via the port. “In the last six months, we’ve even started using the Dar es Salaam port for our imports,” he said.
TPA also stands to benefit even more from the company because its new Konkola Deep Mining Project will help expand production from over 2 million tonnes of ore per annum to about 7 million annually. The Tanzanian delegation comprised officials from the ministry of Transport, Tanzania Ports Authority and Tanzania International Container Terminal Services. (The Citizen on Saturday Reporter)
