The High Court will on September 16 begin to hear a petition by the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) and Tanganyika Law Society against Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda over remarks he made in Parliament in June.

The petitioners, among other things, have asked the court to order the Prime Minister to publicly withdraw his statement on the grounds that it violates human rights as enshrined in the Constitution.
They say Mr Pinda ordered security agencies to use violence against civilians in blatant disregard of the Constitution.
Prime Minister Pinda made the statement on June 20 this year when responding to a supplementary question by Mr Murtaza Mangungu (Kilwa North-CCM).
