Unidentified assailants fired rocket-propelled grenades at home of the commander of the national security force "Libya Shield" in the Eastern Libyan city of Benghazi late Friday.
Wissam Ben Hamid's home was empty at the time. The assailants were reported to be clan members of the Libyan army officer Ahmed Mustafa Al Barghati, who was killed by an armed group earlier in the day.
Mr Hamid is allegedly behind the killing of Al Barghati, according to a security source. Al Barghati served in the Libyan army during former leader Muammar Gaddafi's reign and joined the revolutionary forces during the 2011 unrest. He was appointed to lead the military police in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
Benghazi, birthplace of Libya's revolution against Gaddafi, has witnessed frequent killings and bombings against security officers who worked for the former regime.
Last week, an armed group briefly seized Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan from a Tripoli hotel where he lives.
The group claimed they captured Zeidan with an arrest warrant issued by President of Libya's General National Congress Nuri Sahmain.
Mr Sahmain immediately denied having issued the warrant while Mr Zeidan called the seizure a coup attempt.
