Sudanese President Hassan Omar al-Bashir and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni met on the sidelines of the AU summit on Saturday to iron out their differences, an official has revealed.
Sudan and Uganda’s relations have remained icy for a long time over accusations of supporting rebels.
Speaking to journalists in Khartoum on Saturday, Sudan’s Foreign minister Ahmed Kharti confirmed that the two leaders agreed to halt hostile relations.
“The meeting was friendly and frank,” the minister said.
“I do not think that we are in a position to say there is a final solution to the problem, but in my opinion there is progress,” he added.
Sudan and Uganda have traded accusations of supporting each side’s rebel groups.
Kampala claims that Khartoum is providing support and refuge to the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).
Khartoum on the other hand alleges that Kampala has become a haven for Sudanese rebel leaders.
