The government has vowed that all Senior Public
Officers will attend mandatory training to improve competence and
integrity in the public service sector.
The training to be offered by the Tanzania Public Service College (TPSC) who’s Chief Executive Said Nassor, the college is proceeding to offer mandatory trainings to civil servants in Open Performance Review and Appraisal Systems (OPRAS) and Consultative training for new employees.
Speaking over the weekend in Dar es Salaam during the college’s 15th graduation, the Minister of State in the President’s Office (Public Service Management), Celina Kombani said the introduction of the mandatory training will enable public servants to improve service.
She pointed out that the move compliments government’s determination to see all public employees fulfill their responsibilities effectively to accomplish the government's Big Result Now (BRN) initiative.
Earlier, speaking at the ceremony, TPSC Chief Executive Said Nassor said the college has already prepared a draft for the mandatory training programme for the Senior Public Officers.
The college has five campuses in Dar es salaam, Tabora, Tanga, Mtwara and Singida but is also to open a new branch in Mbeya Region, increasing more classes in Tabora branch as well as build headquarters in Ikwiriri all being part of efforts to bring services closer to the community.
The college is also working to improve its library services and computer laboratories, purchase more vehicles and also embarking on staff capacity building.
However, it is to be noted that the college has only two doctorate holding officers but 10 others are said to be also pursuing their PhDs. The college is however endowed with 54 master’s degree holders and 16 officers with at least their first degrees.
Only Dar es Salaam and Mtwara campuses have graduated any students recording a total of 2,421 graduates in different courses including diploma courses in Records Management (DRM), Secretarial Studies (DSS), Public sector financial management and Information Technology (IT), technician certificate level five and basic technician certificate level 4.
