Dar es Salaam. The opposition Chadema’s Youth
Wing (Bavicha) is set to table national challenges facing young people
in the country before an international forum with the view to finding
solutions.
The meeting, which is due to take place in Dar es
Salaam, will convene members of the International Young Democrat Union
(IYDU) from Sub-Sahara Africa, whereby Tanzania will be represented by
Bavicha.
Mr Deogratias Munishi, Bavicha secretary general,
briefed a news conference yesterday in Dar es Salaam, saying that during
the six-day forum, to run from 26 to 30 this month, the wing will
present a paper on opportunities and challenges facing the youth today.
“Some of the IYDU’s members have powers to push
for implementation of what we will discuss, therefore, we hope to bring
about improvement of the youth in the country,” Mr Munishi pledged.
Also the forum will brainstorm on democracy and
multiparty system in the respective countries; media and its role in
democratic development; as well as building a democratic society. Other
areas will include an issue of economic empowerment to young people.
According to Mr Munishi, the forum is also expected to promote Tanzania as an important and unique tourist destination.
“We believe that the country’s tourism sector is
still not yet well advertised, we’ll make our contribution through the
forum,” he said.
The Bavicha official vowed to use more of such international forums in marketing the country’s tourism industry.
The forum, which will be coordinated by Bavicha,
will be officially opened by the Chadema national secretary general, Dr
Willibrod Slaa, while the party’s national chairman, Mr Freeman Mbowe,
will close it.
During the meeting, a team from the IYDU will also
meet for talks with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Anne
Makinda and the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation minister.
This will be the first time for Bavicha, as a member of the IYDU, to host such a crucial meeting in Tanzania.
